Our Story

It is a little known fact that Waynesville was the true birthplace of the craft beer industry in Western North Carolina. Back in 1993, Smokey Mountain brewery opened in Waynesville one year prior to Highlands opening in Asheville.  This small craft brewery remained opened for 4 years before discontinuing its presence in the craft beer world.

Since then, Western North Carolina has exploded with thriving craft breweries. This first annual festival is to pay homage to the past and future of the craft beer culture of WNC. The inaugural beer and food festival will celebrate the rebirth of beer culture in Waynesville and all of WNC.

It has been the vision of local brewer Kevin Sandefur to bring a dynamic beer festival to Waynesville. This year, Kevin Sandefur (owner of BearWaters Brewing Company) was awarded a grant by the TDA to launch what is hopeful to become a much anticipated yearly event.

The Festival will be located on the beautifully manicured grounds of the Haywood American Legion ball field. It will be within walking distance to Historic downtown Waynesville, where attendees can enjoy cafes and shops. The back drop of this wonderful outdoor festival will feature great local music, fine foods and a homebrew display and education area - complete with informative classes being presented by area home brew experts.
